Key Ingredients:

Hydroxyurea - Selectively inhibits ribonucleoside diphosphate reductase , preventing the conversion of ribonucleotides to deoxyribonucleotide, halting the cell cycle at G1/S and has radiation sensitizing activity by maintaining cells in G1 phase and interfering with DNA repair . In sickle cell anemia, it increases red blood cell hemoglobin F levels, RBC water content, deformability of sickled cells, & alters adhesion of RBCs to endothelium.

In sickle cell patients, supplemental administration of folic acid is recommended; hydroxyurea may mask development of folic acid deficiency.
