Antihypertensive : Aplha2-Adrenergic Agonist

Key Ingredients:

Stimulates alpha2-adrenoreceptors in the brain stem, activating an inhibitory neuron, resulting in reduced sympathetic outflow from CNS, decrease in peripheral resistance, renal vascular resistance, heart rate, & blood pressure; epidural clonidine may produce pain relief at spinal presynaptic & postjunctional alpha2-adrenoceptors by preventing pain signal transmission; pain relief occurs only for body regions innervated by the spinal segments where analgesic concentration of clonidine exist.

Formulation Strength:

Clonidine Syrup 0.1mg/ ml

Pediatric Oral:

• Neonatal abstinence syndrome (opioid withdrawal)
• Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorders (ADHD)
• Clonidine tolerance test (test of growth hormone release from pituitary)
• Conduct disorder/oppositional-defiant disorder with or without ADHD
• Hypertension
• Neuropathic pain
• Sedation, critically ill patients
• Tic disorders & Tourette syndrome

Oral: May be administered without regard to meals. Donot discontinue clonidine abruptly. If needed gradually reduce dose over 2-4 days to avoid rebound hypertension.
